Lost your car registration? Here’s how to get a new copy.

Per guidance from the Registry of Motor Vehoicle, all drivers who his/her license lost or stolne have three ways to get a new registration, in person, online or by phone:

To replace or to get a duplicate of your vehicle registration, you will need your:

Vehicle registration number. Driver's license or ID number for individuals or Federal Identification (FID) number for companies.

Applicable fee.

If ordering the replacement online, you will also need to provide your email address.

To request a replacement registration online, you will need your:

  • Vehicle registration number
  • Driver's license, ID, or FID number
  • Email address
  • Applicable fee

If you need to change your address, be sure to change it before processing your transaction.

Your registration can be printed immediately or it will be mailed to you in 7-10 days. 

By phone

You can call the RMV's Contact Center at 857-368-8000
(from the 339/617/781/857 area codes or from outside of MA) or 800-858-3926 (from all other MA area codes) to request a replacement registration. You will need your:

Vehicle registration number

Driver's license, ID, or FID number

Applicable fee

You will receive the registration in the mail within 5-7 days.
